How are Opens and Clicks determined?

Hello!

Just started using Mailmeteor recently and am liking it so far. However, one issue I’ve noticed is how it measures email opens and clicks. I’ve used other platforms for marketing campaigns, and my rates have never been this high, so I suspect the numbers might be inflated somehow. Mailmeteor could be counting instances where an email’s virus protection automatically opens emails or clicks on links.

Does anyone have more information on this? I’d love to get more accurate data from my campaigns.

Thanks!

Hi,

Opens and clicks are determined using industry standard techniques.

To detect opens, we insert a small image (called a tracking pixel), that when downloaded is considered as an open.

For clicks, we replace the original URL with another one. When someone clicks on our link, we record the click and immediately forward the user to the original URL. Like any redirection service (think bit.ly for example).

You’re correct to mention antivirus and automated systems. They can download images and follow links to ensure emails are free from ransomware and virus.

Mailmeteor has built-in algorithms to detect known bots and improve your metrics. You can define how you’d like events to be recorded as explained in the documentation.
